King of the Hill Trophy

Back

We are trying to locate the perpetual King of the Hill trophy that is pictured below.

"We organized the NEHA over the winter of 1977, the kickoff meeting was at my house in Medfield, Mass. Jan and I bought the trophies for the first year and I believe the second year also. The trophy shown in the picture is the perpetual King of the Hill trophy to be held for a year by the current winner and passed on each year. We made sure that there was enough "base area" for name tags for 30-40 years (I think) for each year's winner. A second smaller award was given to the winner to keep.

When I left for California in the winter of 1980, Jimmy Hale had the trophy. When I got back in 1991 the trophy had disappeared and had been replaced by a large plaque and no one seems to know what happened to it. We donated it in honor of Walt Snow who was our best hillclimbing friend and our constant competitor. It has value to us. If in your research you should find some information on its whereabouts please let me know.
Regards. Sim Shortman" (2007 e-mail)

Pictured below is the trophy (Sim in the foreground and John Reed in the background) along with a photo of Walt Snow with Jan Shortman.

If you have any ideas of the whereabouts of the trophy, please get in contact with Steve at SCCVermont@aol.com (if I don't respond, please try again as the spam filter catches non-spam all the time).

Thanks.
Steve
