How to Get Involved

Workers

The best way to learn more about hillclimbing is to show up at a event. Then either walk around and meet people, or sign up to work. At a hillclimb there is a need for numerous workers. Working at an event generally involves 'working a corner'. We need a minimum of two people to work each corner.

Corner workers ("Checkpoint") communicate with course control ("Control") to make sure the road is clear, clean up fluid spills, and come to the aid of the driver if there is an incident. No experience is needed, we can answer all your questions, so just ask.
A typical hill will have 6 or 7 checkpoints. Working one of these stations is actually the best way to see the event. You get to see the cars at speed on the course.

At these events your help is much appreciated. At Mt Ascutney, breakfast and lunch is provided to you. At Mt Okemo and Burke Mtn., workers in the past have been given 'gas money', as well as a free lunch. These are not profitable incentives, most of the workers just love the sport and like to get out and have fun. Mt. Philo includes free lunch and either 'gas money' or a club t-shirt (your choice).

When you work an event come prepared. We run in just about any weather. Rain gear, and extra clothing is a must, as well as bug spray, water or soda, ( no alcohol ), a chair to sit on, snacks, and maybe a roll of TP (just in case).

Drivers

If you feel you're ready to enter an event. First read the rules and regulations. Figure out which class your car will run in. Then send in your entry form. Either download it from this site, the organizing club's website (SCCV, KSCC, SCCNH), or requesting one through old fashioned snail mail... That's it. You don't need to have a fully built race car to run. A number of entrants drive their car to the event, as well as to work. Just make sure you have the proper safety requirements and you're all set.
